Reader’s Typika

April 26 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Typika is a concise liturgical service prescribed in the Typikon for specific circumstances. It can also take place in situations where no priest or bishop is available to lead worship. Different adaptations exist, blending in portions from the Divine Liturgy, with certain versions structured so that laypeople can conduct them. In particular traditions or dioceses, a deacon may direct the service and include the distribution of Holy Communion from the reserved Sacrament. When performed inside a church building, the doors of the iconostasis stay shut, and the entire service unfolds in the nave rather than the sanctuary.
